On 2nd September 2020 the Government announced the Kickstart Scheme which is designed to provide funding for organisations to create new job placements of short 6 months term contracts for 16 to 24 year olds who are currently claiming Universal Credits and at risk of long-term unemployment.
All new positions must be created specifically for the scheme. Organisations are not allowed to use current vacant positions or dismiss employees to create vacancies. The new position should be aimed at creating a role for someone aged between 16 and 24 years with a view of giving the individual experience of working.
The Government will provide funding for 25 hours per week (including employer statutory payments) at national minimal or living wage as appropriate. Additionally, each role is provided with a £1,500 grant to cover costs such as provision of equipment, uniform and training. Access to the Scheme is either through a Gateway like us or an organisation may apply direct.
